2025 Rugby Championship
Argentina v South Africa
Twickenham Stadium
London, England
Saturday, 4 October 2025
Kick-off is at 15h00
South Africa will be hoping for another big win against Argentina in a bid to retain the
Rugby Championship trophy at Twickenham on Saturday, October 4.
The Springboks went one point clear of New Zealand at the top of the table courtesy of the bonus point they picked up in the 67-30 victory over the Pumas in Durban on September 27.
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu stood out in that match, scoring two tries converting 10 of his 11 kicks at goal to finish with a tally of 37 points.
The All Blacks beat Australia 33-24 in Auckland to keep their title hopes alive, having bounced back from the heavy 43-10 defeat they suffered at the hands of the defending champions in Wellington on September 13.
However, Boks head coach Rassie Erasmus claims he has not selected the strongest team for the round 6 decider due to the lack of training sessions after the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) decided to host the test in London for financial reasons.
Ox Nche slots back in at prop after missing the round 5 encounter with a niggle, but the starting XI is otherwise the same for the crunch clash in England's capital.
"We just have two days of training, and we only arrived on Monday, and last night (Tuesday) we only had the team announcement," Erasmus said.
"We have a training session today and tomorrow. So no, this is definitely not our strongest team.
"If everybody could train on Tuesday, and everybody that we dotted down here trained. So obviously Ox was out with an injury, but he had a week to recover, and he's fine now. Bongi [Mbonambi] was with his family, that was a bit ill.
"Grant [Williams] had a niggle last week, so he's fine, and then putting Jesse [Kriel] in and Andre [Esterhuizen] out was more in respect of the speed that Argentina have.
"Damian Willemse was having more of a nerve problem than an actual hamstring, and that's cleared up nicely. Cheslin [Kolbe] had a shoulder concern, but that turned out to be fine."
Despite suffering their biggest defeat of the 2025 edition last time out, Argentina have now beaten New Zealand twice in two years and Santiago Carreras is the top scorer in the competition with 60 points.
The Pumas also claimed a narrow 28-26 victory over Australia in Sydney and head coach Felipe Contepomi expressed pride in what his players have achieved.
"Look, I would like to think we can fight harder, but one thing I always notice and I value a lot is the spirit and the hard work of the boys. It's a team that works really hard throughout the week," Contepomi said.
"Unfortunately, we couldn't transfer that onto the pitch today and we couldn't stay in the fight when we had to. But yes, the guys work hard and I am very proud of them because of the way they work week in week out and the massive effort they put in. So yeah, I am proud of them."
