With Group D on a knife-edge heading into Matchday 3 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Senegal and Benin are targeting a place in the knockout rounds when they do battle at Grand Stade de Tanger on Tuesday night.
The Cheetahs are currently third in Group D, one point behind both Senegal and DR Congo who occupy first and second respectively. A win for either side would guarantee a place in the last 16, while a draw between DR Congo and Botswana would see The Leopards go through as one of the best Third-placed teams at the showpiece.
Benin made history in their most recent outing, after claiming a 1-0 win over Botswana at Stade Olympique Annexe Complexe Sportif Prince Abdellah on Saturday, which happened to be their first ever victory in the showpiece.
The Lions of Teranga will go into their final group stage encounter on the back of a 1-1 draw with DR Congo during matchday two as Sadio Mane saved their blushes with a 69th minute equalizer at Grand Stade de Tanger.

Speaking after Senegal’s draw with DR Congo, coach Pape Thiaw reserved special praises for Sadio Mane, who he feels is the best player in the country’s history.
"In my eyes, the best player in the history of Senegalese football is Sadio Mané. He has brought so much to this team. He’s an extraordinary player and a real blessing for us,” Thiaw said.
“He is always serving the collective, he’s a true example. We must salute him now, not wait until he retires. He is loved everywhere in the world and always shows desire and determination.
“As a coach, it’s a tremendous privilege to have Sadio Mané in my squad.”
