2025-26 Spanish La Liga

Matchday 8

Espanyol v Real Betis

RCDE Stadium

Cornella de Llobregat, Spain

Sunday, 5 October 2025

Kick-off is at 18h30

Real Betis will be looking to win on their third win of the season when they make the journey to the northeast of Spain to do battle with Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday, October 5.

Betis ran out 2-0 victors over Osasuna 2-0 on September 28 to make it back-to-back wins in La Liga and extend their unbeaten run to three matches since Athletic Bilbao inflicted their first defeat of the campaign on August 31.

Manuel Pellegrini's side are in a three-way tie with Atletico Madrid (5th) and the Parakeets (7th) on 12 points and they occupy the final European berth in sixth place.

The Catalan outfit made a promising start to the season, picking up 10 points out of a possible 12 before seeing their unbeaten run come to an end with a 2-0 reverse to Real Madrid on September 20.

A 0-0 draw with Girona six days later left Espanyol without a win in their last three outings and they will be hoping to get back on the winning trail in their own backyard, where they've dropped just two points thus far.

The Andalusian club have emerged victorious in two of their last three trips to Cornella de Llobregat though, and triumphed 2-1 in the corresponding fixture last term.

Antony is still working his way back to full fitness after joining Betis on a permanent deal from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, having enjoyed a productive loan spell in Seville last term.

Pellegrini is aware that it will take a bit of time for the Brazilian winger to get back to his best and is happy to be patient with Antony, who has started the last three games.

"I don't have any concerns about him; he hasn't played or trained for a long time. He'll improve as the matches go by," the Chilean said.

"He's aware of the importance of improving, and we're very happy with him in every way."
