Betway Premiership - Matchday 11

2024/25 Betway Premiership

Matchday 11

31 October - 2 November 2025

The lead could be exchanged once more in the Betway Premiership this weekend as the title race hots up between Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United and Orlando PIrates.

The top-three teams are separated by just three points, although there is a discrepancy in games played and the Buccaneers have the advantage in that regard.

Pirates and Sundowns square off at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, November 1, with Abdeslam Ouaddou's side looking to get the better of their rivals for the season time this season.

The Sea Robbers beat Bafana ba Style 4-1 on penalties in the MTN8 semi-finals before going on to lift the trophy for a fourth year running. They are also on a six-match winning streak in the league after they edged Polokwane City 1-0 on October 22.

The Brazilians defeated Richards Bay 4-1 most recently on September 27 as they bounced back from a 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows, who ended their unbeaten start to the campaign.

But Pirates could briefly be overtaken by arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs, who face Durban City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, October 31.

The Glamour Boys trail their Soweto neighbours by two points in fourth place and they will target a return to winning ways after a 0-0 draw against Siwelele on October 22 extended their winless run to four outings.

The Citizens are just one point further back in fifth position, having missed out on the opportunity to go level with Pirates when they lost 1-0 to AmaZulu on October 18.

Gavin Hunt's side had made a bright start to the season, going unbeaten in their opening four matches, but they've now lost three of their last six league encounters.

City were dumped out of the Carling Knockout following a 3-1 loss to Richards Bay on October 25 and Hunt dismissed the notion that a lighter fixture schedule will benefit his players.

"It's not a blessing in disguise, we want to play more games," he said. "So, we're going to have a period now where we don't play for two weeks. It's disappointing, you want to play more. The more you play, the better."

Sekhukhune United will be aiming to reclaim top spot when they travel to Bloemfontein for a clash with Siwelele at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Friday. October 31.

Babina Noko tasted defeat for the first time in the league after going down 1-0 to Polokwane City on September 27 and they are now winless in their last two games.

Eric Tinkler has stressed the importance of not changing the way they play, but rather make improvements to what his team are doing.

"What is very important for us is that we don't change the way we play, and that we continue doing what we're doing," he said. "We have just got to get better at the finer details."

Siwelele have really struggled this term and find themselves just two points off the foot of the table after winning two of their opening 10 games.

Lehlohonolo Seema's side can at least take some hope from their last two performances after beating Marumo Gallants 1-0 and following it up with a 0-0 draw against Chiefs on October 22.

Meanwhile, Chippa United will be looking to make a winning start under Vusumuzi Vilakazi when they host AmaZulu at Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday, November 1.

The Chilli Boys made their fifth coaching change of the season with the appointment of Vilakazi, who replaced Luc Eymael at the helm after a 2-1 reverse to Gallants on October 18 extended their winless run to four matches.

Chippa are rooted to the foot of the table on six points, three adrift of safety and nine behind Usuthu, who arrested a two-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over neighbours Durban City on October 18.

Elsewhere around the country, Polokwane City (6th) entertain Richards Bay (11th) at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, TS Galaxy (8th) and Stellenbosch (13th) meet at the Mbombela Stadium, Golden Arrows (9th) take on Marumo Gallants (10th) at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium and Orbit College (12th) go head-to-head with Magesi (14th) at Olympia Park.
