After bagging two consecutive wins on their End-of-Year tour recently, the scintillating Springboks will hope to gather further momentum when they take on Italy in Turin on 15 November.
The Springboks will be high on confidence this week following a dominant 32-17 win against France at the Stade de France on Saturday night. France looked sharp during the opening exchanges of the match, largely due to fullback Thomas Ramos vision and pin point accuracy with the boot.
While France led 14-13 at half-time, South Africa were reduced to 14-men after Lood de Jager received his marching orders in the 38
thminute. However, a gritty display of physicality and speed saw South Africa run to a 32-17 win via second-half tries from Andre Esterhuizen, Grant Williams and Sacha-Feinberg Mngomezulu.
Italy on the other hand, shocked the rugby world after bagging a 26-19 win over Australia on Saturday.
With the Wallabies heading into the game as favourites, Italy secured a dramatic comeback win which was boosted by crucial second-half tries from Monty Ioane and Louis Lynagh.
Reflecting on the upcoming test against Italy, heavy tighthead prop Wilco Louw believes that Italy will be prepared to have a go at South Africa on home soil.
“It [the game against France] was a big win, but next week Italy will be up and ready to face us, so we will start preparing for that,” said Louw.
“As always, they’ll definitely come at us. They are a good team, and they have quality scrums and mauls, while they also like to throw the ball around, so it will be a big challenge and tough game next week.”
