There is a R1-million Pick 6 carryover which is likely to boost the pool at Saturday’s standalone meeting at HWB
Greyville to R3-million. The ready-made banker is Dean Kannemeyer’s star colt, Green With Envy, one of the hottest Grade 1 Daily News favourites in recent years.
But that this is potentially a five-legged Pick 6 doesn’t mean that a low payout can be expected. The other five legs are trappy and a single upset can result in a big return. There is also Group action around the world this weekend, for which the best odds will be available on Betway.

Aragosta and
Marauding Horde will take their places in the Listed Lonsdale Stirrup Cup over 2400m. Mike said: “This is Aragosta’s game, he enjoys distances around 2400m. He is in form after the Gauteng autumn season and comes off a short break. He should run well, but his big weight is an obvious factor to contend with.
“Marauding Horde is under sufferance, but so are five or six other runners in this field. Barring Tax Haven, the form from the SA Derby has worked out well with both the second and fourth horses finishing 1-2 in their subsequent run, the Colorado King Stakes. Marauding Horde was just off them in the Derby so could frank the form again with a good run. However, three-year-olds always find it tough to win over ground when they race at this level. There are some hard-knocking stayers in the contest. While I think he will run well, I’d say a top-four finish will be a very good showing given his lack of experience. We’ve taken the blinkers off because it seems he pulled to hard in blinkers last time.”
Silver Sanctuary is back in action in the Grade 1 Woolavington 2000. Mike commented: “She’s had a good rest since her third place to Frances Ethel in the SA Oaks. She is nice and fresh and potentially better suited to 2000m. It is a very competitive field of fillies with a few chances among them, but Silver Sanctuary should be one the main contenders from her good draw.”
Mary’s Greenlight runs in Race 8 over 1600m, her favourite distance, and if she delivers her best form, she’ll be a big runner. Mike assessed: “They hacked around at Scottsville last time and she had to be dropped out, she is better than that. I think if she can overcome the draw in this race, she should finish close.”
Justin Snaith’s well-performed pair, five-year-old Pacaya and three-year-old Rapidash, could fight out Race 8, the Grade 3 Pocket Power Stakes over 1950m. There was 1,50-lengths between them when Pacaya beat Rapidash in the Jet Master Stakes over 1800m earlier this month and they meet on identical terms. However, the younger horse was running hard at Pacaya that day and gaining at the finish. He’ll be fitter now, is at a stage of his career when he can make rapid improvement and could turn the tables over the extra 150m. On a line of recent form through Time For Love, Lucinda Woodruff’s My Flower Fate looks the right choice in Race 7, the Listed Stormsvlei Stakes over 1800m.
There are four Group races on the card at The Curragh in Ireland on Sunday, including the Tattersalls Group Gold Cup and the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas. Group 1 Derby and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Auguste Rodin will want to put his disappointing run in the Sheema Classic behind him with a comeback win in the Gold Cup. Donnacha O’Brein’s Porta Fortuna, runner up in the recent Group 1 Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, looks a serious contender in the Irish equivalent.
