2024-25 Premier League

Matchday 28

Chelsea v Leicester City

Stamford Bridge, London

Sunday, 9 March 2025

Kick-off at 16:00

Chelsea will look to build momentum in the Premier League when they welcome Leicester City to Stamford Bridge on the afternoon of Sunday, 9 March 2025. Kick-off is at 16:00

Current Form

Chelsea broke a two-match losing streak in the league when they defeated bottom-of-the-log Southampton 4-0 at home on 25 February, with goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella. The result left them in fifth place on the log with 46 points from 27 matches.

The Blues have won their last three successive home league matches, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United prior to the victory over the Saints.

Leicester City have suffered four successive league defeats, with their most recent setback a 2-0 reverse at the hands of West Ham United on 27 February. They find themselves second-from-bottom (19th) with 17 points from 27 matches – five points short of safety.

The Foxes have lost seven of their last eight away matches in the league, with the only exception a 2-1 triumph at Tottenham Hotspur in late January.

Team News

Chelsea will be without Mykhailo Mudryk due to suspension, while Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, Romeo Lavia and David Fofana remain absent due to injury.

Leicester will be without Abdul Fatawu and Harry Souttar due to injury.

Quotes

“I'm always concerned about overall performance, but I'm not worried about Cole [Palmer, who has gone seven games without a goal] because he's human and can have moments during the season where he struggles a bit more,” said Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

“The issue with Cole is probably that we rely on him too much for everything, and I've said from the start that we need to depend on the whole team. Of course, we need key players like Cole, but we're not concerned about him at all.”

Head-to-Head

In head-to-head stats, Chelsea and Leicester have met in 126 matches across all competitions since 1905. The Blues have claimed 63 wins compared to 28 for the Foxes, while 35 games have been drawn.

When the teams last met in the Premier League, at the King Power Stadium in November 2024, Chelsea claimed a 2-1 away win thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez. Jordan Ayew scored a late consolation for City.
