The two De Kock runners at Scottsville are
Ingqwele (Race 3, 1600m) and
Khetiwe’s Destiny (Race 8, 1200m).
Mike commented: “Ingqwele never had cover and didn’t settle in her race last time, so he didn’t get into a good position. If Muzi Yeni can get him into a better position in this race, Ingqwele can challenge for a place in the first three, he is quite capable. Dean Kannemeyer’s runner Rhydian looks the horse to beat.
“We didn’t plan this race for Khetiwe’s Destiny. She was prepared for and supposed to run two weeks ago but was scratched and we were left scratching our heads. I was trying to qualify her for a race on Durban July day. She’ll have to run in the first three against the older fillies here to warrant inclusion on July day. She’s only a Maiden Juvenile winner and this is not the ideal race for her, but she is a useful filly who will win her races so must have a shout.”
Vaughan Marshall’s smart sprinter One Stripe is expected to confirm his reputation as the best two-year-old in the Western Cape when he lines up in Race 7, the R500,000 Grade 3 Langerman over 1500m at Kenilworth. He already has two Grade 3 wins over 1100m and 1200m to show from his four starts, and indications are he’ll be just as effective over the extra ground.
One Stripe’s sire, the sensational freshman One World, won this standard-setting feature in 2018 and went on to a star-studded career. One Stripe should be a reliable Pick 6 banker on an otherwise trappy card, which includes the competitive Winter Mile.
The Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes over 1200m (Race 3) tops the bill on Saturday, the final day of the 2024 Royal Ascot Festival. For the lack of any runs this year, Ralph Beckett’s quality seven-year-old sprinter Kinross may have to play second fiddle to Jane Chapple-Hyam’s four-year-old, Mill Stream, who showed his present level of fitness when he won the recent Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Stakes over 1200m. With William Buick back in the saddle, he rates the horse to beat. The Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes and the Group 3 Jersey Stakes are supporting features on the seven-race programme.
