2024/25 Betway Premiership
Matchday 10

13-15 December 2024

With Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates on continental duties this weekend, Polokwane City have a chance to close right up on the Betway Premiership frontrunners.

Polokwane City will look to ramp up the pressure on the league leaders when they host Marumo Gallants at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, December 15.

Rise And Shine reclaimed third place in the standings after they beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 on December 8 to close within four points of Sundowns and Pirates.

Phuti Mohafe's side have played to games more than the top two, but their head coach wants to build up some momentum after claiming a first win in four matches.

"Our target is to finish in the top eight, so we can't lose matches and expect us to remain in the top eight. By winning matches, it tells us that we will still be in the top eight," Mohafe said.

"We don't have to look down on ourselves and say we are still a small team. We have to go and perform with other teams because the points are the same.

"It doesn't matter how you get them, you get them from small teams, you get it from the so-called big teams, it's still the same. So going into the top three, it presently cements our top-eight spot. We just need to continue working."

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have finally found some form after getting off to a slow start which saw them lose their opening three encounters.

Gallants battled back from a goal down to triumph 3-1 over Magesi on December 7, making it back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Dan Malesela's side have now won three of their last five games to climb up to 10th spot, two points shy of the top eight.

Then on Saturday, December 14, Chippa United will be hoping to make home advantage count when they welcome out-of-sorts Cape Town City to the Buffalo City Stadium.

The Chilli Boys recorded their second win in four matches as they beat Magesi 2-0 on November 30 to close within a point of Stellenbosch (4th) in fifth place.

The Citizens are languishing down in 13th position after a 1-0 reverse to Sekhukhune United on December 7 saw them lose for the third time in four outings.

Eric Tinkler's side are just two points clear of the danger zone and tied with Royal AM (12th) on eight points, but behind them on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Golden Arrows will be aiming to inflict more woe on Richards Bay when the two teams clash in a KZN derby at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday, December 14.

Abafana Bes'thende appear to have recovered from a mini slump after registering back-to-back 3-2 wins against Royal AM and Cape Town City.

Arrows had gone winless in their previous four games and they've climbed up to sixth place, level on 13 points with Sekhukhune United (7th).

The Natal Rich Boyz are rooted to the foot of the table after picking up just one win from their opening 10 matches - a 1-0 success against TS Galaxy on September 15.

Brandon Truter paid the price for a poor run which saw the team collect just two points from their next seven games and they've suffered back-to-back defeats against AmaZulu and SuperSport United under Ronnie Gabriel and Sboniso Gumede.

Elsewhere, AmaZulu (14th) and Royal AM (12th) go head-to-head in a KZN derby at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Friday, December 13, while SuperSport United (8th) take on Magesi (15th) at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday, December 14.
