South Africa v Bangladesh ODI Betting Preview

Fresh from their innings demolition of Bangladesh in the second test to seal the series 2-0 in which Kagiso Rabada became the youngest South African to reach the 100 wicket mark and the fourth fastest Protea in history to reach the milestone, they will be eager to take to the field again and test their credentials in the 50-over game.

“The confidence from this series ahead of two big series at the end of the year, we appreciate that. From this series, there is nothing that we could have done better. Everyone scored runs, there were big hundreds and many hundreds, there were also some important partnerships. We are not the finished article, we understand that we are a team that needs to get better. If we get better, we will challenge for the No 1 position again.” These were the words echoed by Protea captain Faf du Plessis following their convincing test series victory of Bangladesh on Sunday as they prepare for a three-match ODI series against the same opponents before they welcome the world’s best Test and ODI team, India, to South African shores followed by Australia’s trip to the rainbow nation in what will prove to be two extremely tough tours.

Bangladesh have only ever recorded three One Day International victories over the Proteas in 18 attempts since they first faced each other back in 2002 when South Africa swept them aside 3-0. The Tigers first victory came at the 2007 World Cup in West Indies in the Super 8 stage. They had to wait another 8 years before their next success, this time securing an historic come from behind 2-1 series victory at home in 2015. Opening batsmen Soumya Sarkar was the star of the show that series, scoring a remarkable 205 runs in his three innings at an astonishing average of 102.5. His 90* not out in the third and final ODI was the highest score of the series as they cruised to a 9 wicket win.

This will be the sides first crack at limited overs cricket since the Champions Trophy in England back in June, when the teams managed just a pair of victories between them in the six matches they played. South Africa have only managed five wins from the last eleven matches that they’ve played which included a series victory over New Zealand before defeat to England in their Champions Trophy warm-up. The Tigers followed up impressive victories over Sri Lanka, Ireland and New Zealand in the build up to the tournament, with another win over the Black Caps in the group stage of the competition.
