South Africa v Netherlands

South Africa will look to keep the momentum going when they face the Netherlands in their third match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup at the HPCA Stadium in Dharmashala on Tuesday, October 17.

The Proteas have been dominant in India thus far, beating Sri Lanka and Australia with consummate ease to be tipped by many as genuine title contenders now.

Rob Walter's side dispatched the Aussies by 134 runs on October 12 as they put on an impressive display with both bat and ball, scoring 311/7 before dismissing the opposition for just 177.

Quinton de Kock was the top scorer in the match with 109 off 106 balls, with the wicketkeeper-batter registering his second consecutive century in the tournament.

Australia did well to restrict them to 73 runs from their final 10 overs as South Africa looked to be on course for a total in excess of 330 at one stage.

Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada combined to suppress the Aussies at the crease, taking one and three wickets respectively to remove two of the dangermen in David Warner and Steven Smith.

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma described the performance against their arch-rivals as "near perfect" and praised the character they showed in another crushing victory.

"I'd be really greedy if I said there were areas to improve, a near-perfect game with the bat, and with the ball, looking at all the phases, the guys dominated and showed their skills.

"Got to acknowledge the batting effort, being over-par, and we were clinical with the new ball, then KG [Rabada] following up with intensity, then the spinners. Character is the biggest thing we talk about, and we showed it today."

The Netherlands have yet to get the better of South Africa in seven attempts and they're still searching for their first win of the tournament.

Ryan ten Doeschate's side lost to Pakistan by 81 runs in their opener before New Zealand beat them by 99 runs on October 9, although they weren't overawed on either occasion.

Colin Ackermann impressed with the bat against the Black Caps, top scoring for the Flying Dutchmen with 69 off 73 balls as they were eventually dismissed for 223 in the 47th over.

But Ackermann admits they have struggled to set the tempo with the ball, which saw spinner Aryan Dutt open the bowling in their first two games and he'll unlikely be given time to settle against the South African batters.

"We've played some good cricket in patches, we just haven't put together enough phases where we dominate. We need to put together all three phases of the game to win," he said after the defeat to New Zealand.

"Against Pakistan we took three wickets in the powerplay and pegged them back pretty well. It didn't work out that way today for us. I think we probably were looking to follow the same blueprint."
