Bangladesh v South Africa
Wankhede Stadium
Mumbai, India
Tuesday, 24 October 2023
South Africa have the chance to move up to second in the points table when they play Bangladesh at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24.
The Proteas bounced back from their first defeat of the
2023 Cricket World Cup with a crushing victory over England by 229 runs at the same venue on October 21.
They dispatched the England bowlers to all parts of the ground as Heinrich Klaasen top-scored with 109 off just 67 balls, while Reeza Hendricks (85), Rassie van der Dussen (60) and Marco Jansen (75 n.o.) registered half-centuries.
All five of South Africa's bowlers chipped in with wickets to dismiss the defending champions for a paltry 170. Gerald Coetzee stood out with figures of 3/35 despite being a bit on the expensive side after going for 8.75 runs from his four overs.
Klaasen was named Player of the Match for his outstanding innings, but he was quick to pay tribute to Jansen for an excellent knock and pushing him to keep going in the sweltering conditions.

"It's up there with my best ever," he said in the post-match presentation. "The conditions were brutal. It's just proper heat, sapped out all the energy.
"[I] Was told to not run my runs too hard, save energy because the heat out is extreme. The chat with Marco was the same and that's what happened. Jansen was next level, he kept me going and should get this award. His runs are so vital."
Bangladesh have struggled since kicking off their campaign in India with a convincing win over Afghanistan, losing their next three games by considerable margins.
The Tigers were no match for England, New Zealand and hosts India, who cruised to victory by seven wickets in Pune on October 19.
Chandika Hathurusingha's side made a promising start as openers Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) both scored half-centuries in a first-wicket stand of 93.
But they lost wickets at regular intervals from that point onwards and ended up with a total of 256/8 from their allotted 50 overs.
India got the job done in just 41.3 overs as Virat Kohli led the charge with 103 after Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored 48 and 53 respectively at the top of the order.
Bangladesh stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted the top order didn't contribute enough runs as Hasan and Das both felt they should converted their scores into big hundreds.

"We were well prepared. Our top order did well but the two set batters should have played long knocks. If one of them scored 120 or 130, it would have made life easier for the latter batters," Shanto said.
"I think we couldn't bat well in the middle overs. One of our openers should have batted a bit longer. It would have been a different ball game.
"Tanzid and Litton aren't satisfied with their knocks. Big players convert these starts into 100s or 150s. We are all concerned, and we are working on it."
