Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says attacking midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng has enough capacity to overcome recent challenges of lack of game time.
Mofokeng has made 14 only appearances for Pirates in all competitions so far this season and the lack of game time has left his place in the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in danger.
In those 14 matches, Mofokeng has only contributed two assists and that is a worrying statistic for a player who operates in the advanced attacking position.
Over the past few months, Mofokeng has missed important
2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Rwanda and the friendly against Zambia.
“Relebohile is a matured guy. I don’t know what is happening with him at Pirates at the moment but he will find a way to come back on track and find a way to do it.”
Riveiro said players goes through ups and downs in football.
“There are ups and downs in football and that is normal. You can never be on your peak constantly. He makes things easy for everyone by performing the way he does every week.
"I am sure he will continue enjoying playing football and contributing to the club and Bafana.”
During his Bafana absence, attacking players like Mohau Nkota, Oswin Appollis and Sipho Mbule have gabbed their opportunities and they looks set to make coach Hugo Boos' final squad for Afcon.
