2019 Mzansi Super League
Review/preview 20 November – 1 December
The log table for the Mzansi Super League looks to be taking a settled shape following the past week’s results, with Nelson Mandela Bay Giants comfortable in first place.
The Eastern Cape side racked up impressive wins over Cape Town Blitz and Durban Heat last week, with JJ Smuts and Jason Roy leading convincing chases at St George’s Park to leave the Giants with a haul of 19 points from five matches.
“The big thing about T20 cricket is that you can have one or two individuals stand up and win you games,” explained Smuts in regards to the Giants’ excellent season to date.
“But when you have a team like outs that put in a really big performance all round like they did in the last game it's really pleasing to see.

“I always say that when you're playing well as a unit then that's even better. Something is going to happen for you.”
With the top team advancing into the final and positions two and three meeting in an eliminator (semifinal), the scramble is on between the trio of Paarl Rocks (second with 15 points), Tshwane Spartans (third, 14) and Cape Town Blitz (fourth, 13).
The coming days could be key in deciding which teams make the sharp end of the competition, starting with a top-of-the-table clash between Giants and Rocks in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday 27 November.
Rocks will be involved in another crunch clash on Friday evening when they head to Centurion to take on Spartans, who will hope AB de Villiers continues the form he showed in the derby against Jozi Stars this past weekend.
The weekend continues with Durban Heat v Giants on Saturday, while Sunday’s double-header opens with bottom-of-the-log Stars hosting Rocks, before a key game between Blitz and Spartans at Newlands in the afternoon.
