Hideki Matsuyama will be looking to record his maiden win in 2023 by clinching the
Valero Texas Open.
What to know about Matsuyama
The 31-year-old is a successful Japanese golfer who plays on the PGA Tour having made his professional debut in April 2013.
Matsuyama is the first-ever Japanese professional golfer to win a men's major golf championship – the 2021 Masters Tournament.
He has 17 worldwide wins, eight career top-10 finishes in major championships, and five Presidents Cup appearances.

Matsuyama, who is an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, finished 31st at the recent 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on March 26.
Prior to that, the former Tohoku Fukushi University student finished fifth at the 2023 Players Championship with Scottie Scheffler winning the tournament.
Why Matsuyama is among the favourites
Placed 21st on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), Matsuyama is the highest ranked golfer at this year's Valero Texas Open.
The Ehime-born golfer returns for the third year in a row at the Valero Texas Open having finished 30th in 2021 before withdrawing last year due to an injury and he will be keen to clinch the title.
What did he say
Matsuyama also withdrew from the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play prior to the start of his third-round match with a neck injury, but he is set to return to action in Texas.
“I experienced some stiffness in my neck this morning while warming up on the range, preventing me from making a full swing."
"As a precautionary measure, I decided to concede my match to Max and rest before moving on to the Valero Texas Open next week,” Matsuyama said in a statement.
