New York Knicks v Boston Celtics
NBA Regular Season
Sunday 16 May 2021
Madison Square Garden, NYC, New York
The New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics will write another chapter into the history of their rivalry when they meet in an
NBA Regular Season game at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday 16 May 2021.
The Knicks are on the verge of qualification for the Playoffs of the 2020-21 NBA season, though the New York outfit has plenty of work to do if they are to reach the kind of standard set by the Eastern Conference’s top three teams: the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks.
This was certainly evident in their 128-105 loss against the Phoenix Suns (who have been superb in the Western Conference) this past weekend. "We played a poor second half. That was pretty much it," the Knicks’ Jason Randle said. "We went away from everything we did. We've got to learn from it."

The Celtics, meanwhile, look set to end the Regular Season in mid-table and be forced to fight for a Playoff spot via the Play-in tournament. Boston put in a strong showing – particularly star man Kemba Walker – in this past weekend’s clash against the Chicago Bulls, they they still succumbed 121-99.

"They're a tough matchup for us," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. "Obviously, I think they played really well, and we did not shoot the ball well, and it kind of went from there."
Stevens, though, has been buoyed by the performances of Walker, who has made an impressive return from injury: “He had good burst and looked good. Injuries are no fun, but you can tell the guys who've had time off their legs because you can see the different burst. [Walker] was great."
In head-to-head stats, the Knicks and the Celtics have met in 480 Regular Season games since 1946-47, with Boston claiming 297 wins compared to 183 for New York. The teams last met in the Regular Season in April 2021, with the Celtics claiming a 101-99 win thanks to 32 points from Jaylen Brown.
