2019-20 Premier League
25-28 June 2020
Selected matches, rounds 31 and 32
Chelsea will look to upset outgoing champions Manchester City when the teams meet for a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Thursday 25 June 2020. The match is one of five spread from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 June, as the
English Premier League continues its return from a three-month pandemic-enforced absence.
Chelsea returned to action with a come-from-behind 2-1 win away to Aston Villa on Sunday 21 June. Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud netted for the Blues, who kept themselves very much on track to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Manager Frank Lampard was delighted with the result, but urged his team to up their performance level for the clash against Man City: “We played well in patches but when they put us under pressure slightly, I thought we gave it away too easily - things we will definitely have to clean up on in the future games coming up. I want to hang on the positive note but it's my job also to look at things we can improve on.”

City have resumed their season in strong style, first thrashing Arsenal 3-0 last midweek before crushing Burnley 5-0 this past Monday night. Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden were the stars of the win over the Clarets, netting two goals apiece.
"We played really well, it was a solid performance. In the beginning, we were a little bit hurried, we had to be more patient, give permission to ourselves to become more comfortable and make the transitions," manager Pep Guardiola explained after beating Burnley. "It helped us a lot, the first goal from Phil [Foden]. It's nice, we have a good advantage in the push for qualification to the Champions League next season and we are so close.”
In head-to-head stats, Chelsea and City have met in 164 matches across all competitions. The Blues have claimed 67 wins compared to 58 for the Citizens, while 39 games have been drawn.
When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, City claimed a 2-1 home win at the Etihad Stadium in November 2019 thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez.
