Dominic Thiem will look to up his game for Wimbledon 2019 when the grass-court Grand Slam is held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London from 1-14 July.
Thiem is regarded as one of the future champions of the sport, but he has yet to impress at SW19. His best showing at the tournament was in 2017 when he reached the fourth round, while last year he retired injured in his first-round match against Marcos Baghdatis.
Yet the Austrian is in fine form and comes into Wimbledon on the back of a runners-up finish at the French Open. Thiem was able to defeat the likes of Gael Monfils, Karen Khachanov and top-ranked Novak Djokovic, but ultimately fell in the final at the hands of 12-time champion Rafael Nadal.
Losing to Nadal at Roland Garros is no dishonour, but Thiem will still be stinging from the defeat and looking to demonstrate that his game translates well to grass.
The 25-year-old will hope that the 2019 edition of Wimbledon sees him leading a change of the guard in the men’s game, as he and the likes of Alexander Zverev and Kei Nishikori look to oust the ‘big three’ of Nadal, Djokovic and Roger Federer.
