Instantly recognizable as the hero who set the tone for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Siphiwe Tshabalala has long been known as a Kaizer Chiefs legend and has now joined a number of other South African sports stars as a

Where the journey began
After impressing at the inaugural Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge, Siphiwe caught the attention of Kaizer Chiefs and was pulled into their academy. Despite not making the cut for the Chiefs first-team, Tshabalala remained undeterred. He joined Alexandra United in the 2003/04 season and moved to Free State Stars the following year. It wasn’t long before he then returned to Chiefs as a first-team player.
Career and Achievements
Siphiwe’s star was rising from 2008 onward, winning Player and Players’ Player of the Year awards at the Kaizer Chiefs Award Ceremony. He also picked up Website Player of the Year, Goal of the Season and Readers’ Choice awards. At this point he was one of the most formidable footballers in South Africa, but his notoriety was about to get a huge jump.
This was of course all prior to his magical moment against Mexico in the opening game of the FIFA World Cup. In the 55
th minute, Siphiwe slotted an absolute stunner which resulted in wild celebrations across the country. The goal eventually made the shortlist for the Puskas Award, a nomination for goal of the year by FIFA. After this, Tshabalala became a household name in South Africa, with every football fan discussing his talent.
