Round 3: Hungarian Grand Prix

Ferrari will hope that a change of venue brings them better fortune when the 2020 Formula 1 season continues with Round 3, the
Hungarian Grand Prix, at the Hungaroring on Sunday 19 July.
The ‘Scuderia’ have endured difficult back-to-back weekends at the Red Bull Ring. While Charles Leclerc put in a strong drive at the Austrian Grand Prix to come home in second place, Sebastian Vettel’s struggles (he managed only a 10th-place finish) hinted at a worrying lack of performance.

Ferrari brought new parts for the Styrian Grand Prix and were hoping to see an improvement in their pace, but that disappeared just a couple of corners into this past Sunday’s race when Leclerc collided with Vettel and put both cars into retirement.
The Italian team now lies a lowly fifth on the constructors’ championship with just 19 points – already 61 adrift of leaders Mercedes and with seemingly little hope of closing the gap in a shortened season.
“A big pity and something we should avoid, but not much I could have done differently,” said Vettel. “I was taking it easy and conservative because it was already very busy and tight. I don’t think there was space, that’s why I think we collided.
“The car felt a lot better. It’s a shame for the update it would’ve been nice to get a race distance in.”
Leclerc, meanwhile, took responsibility for the collision: “I am disappointed in myself. I’m sorry but being sorry is not enough,” said the Monegasque.
“Seb hasn’t got any faults today. I’ve let the team down after them working a whole week to bring the updates early. Too eager to gain those places in the first lap. I will learn from it.”
Ferrari managed a 3-4 finish at last season’s Hungarian Grand Prix, though lead driver Vettel finished more than a minute behind race winner Lewis Hamilton. Given the ‘Scuderia’s’ problems so far this term, they would happily accept a similar result this coming weekend.
