Double round-robin
16-22 January 2024

We're two rounds into Betway SA20 2024 as Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals boast 100 per cent records, while Pretoria Capitals have yet to put any points on the board.

Defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape will look to get their campaign up and running against MI Cape Town at Newlands on Tuesday, January 16.

Sunrisers have only picked up two points thus far after their opening match against Joburg Super Kings was washed out without a ball being bowled before they lost to Durban's Super Giants by 35 runs on January 13.

MI Cape Town bounced back from their season-opening 11-run defeat to the Super Giants as they beat the Super Kings by 98 runs on January 13 to sit third in the table on five points.

Ryan Rickleton (98) and Rassie van der Dussen (104) were involved in a historic 200-run opening stand against JSK, with the pair hitting 28 boundaries between them.

The openers had also put on 82 run for the first wicket against DSG and Van der Dussen said: "These two games have shown that Ryan and I make a nice partnership.

"We have played together for a lot of years and we know each other's games pretty well. He got off to a flyer in Durban and really ran with that momentum. It was my turn (at the Wanderers)."

Paarl Royals will attempt to keep their perfect record in tact when they host Joburg Super Kings at Boland Park on Wednesday, January 17.

The Royals kicked off their season with back-to-back victories against Pretoria Capitals, winning by 27 runs in Paarl on January 12 and 10 runs in Centurion two days later.

Shane Bond's side are kept off the summit by the Super Giants, who have a better net run rate after two matches - 1.260 compared to 0.925.

The Super Kings have also made a winless start to proceedings after suffering a heavy defeat to MI Cape Town at the Wanderers on January 13, which left them down in fifth place on two points.

Pretoria Capitals will be hoping to kickstart their season against Durban's Super Giants at Centurion Park on Thursday, January 18.

The Capitals improved on their underwhelming performance at Boland Park as they came up just short against the Royals on home soil, with Rilee Rossouw's 82 off 45 balls taking them within 11 runs of victory.

The Super Giants top the table on eight points after winning their opening two matches against MI Cape Town and Sunrisers.

Jon-Jon Smuts starred against his former team on January 13, hitting 75 of 38 balls before picking up the prized wicket of Aiden Markram and also dismissing Marco Jansen to finish with figures of 2/36.

"Playing at St George's Park is always special. I know this wicket pretty well, have spent a lot of time here," Smuts said.

"Local knowledge certainly helped in terms of knowing how to use the wind also a bit better. A lot of the sixes went to the bigger boundary but with the wind it carried. Nice to get runs here and get the team over the line."

In other matches taking place over the weekend, MI Cape Town take on Paarl Royals at Newlands on Friday, January 19 before heading to Boland Park for the return fixture two days later.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape travel to Kingsmead for a clash with Durban's Super Giants on Saturday, January 20 and are in action again two days later when Pretoria Capitals visit St George's Park.
