This year’s calendar will include 22 races, including a new Grand Prix track and a return of an old favourite. Let’s have a look at what to expect in the upcoming Grand Prix season.
Golden Oldie And Return of the Track?
Among the 22 races expected in this year’s Formula 1 season will see the return to the old iconic Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands. This race is scheduled for 3 May, wedged between the the Spanish and Chinese Grand Prix. This is set to be a fantastic track to race, even though there’s no overtaking.
An updated layout of the Hanoi Circuit in Vietnam has also been revealed and the drivers are set to compete on this track on the 5 April. One thing is for sure, the reaction towards this track has been much more positive than the Zandvoort track.
Australian GP Under Threat?
With forest fires running rampant in Australia, it is a cause for concern for Formula 1’s first race in Melbourne. With tennis players struggling with breathing issues and qualify of air during qualification rounds of the Australian Open, it is worthy to note whether the first race of the season will be postponed or go ahead as planned.
They could reschedule and start the season off in Bahrain and return at a later stage, however this is yet to be announced.
Driver Lineups
Speculation as to who will partner Hamilton in the driver’s lineup For Mercedes has been laid to rest after confirmation that Valterri Bottas will remain with the current constructor champions.
Meanwhile in Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel looked to be holding the key to unlocking the F1 driver’s market as his contract was set to expire in 2020. With the young blood of Charles Leclerc sweeping consecutive victories while making Vettel’s pace look pedestrian, we were sure to see a coveted Ferrari seat open. As things stand, the pair should continue for this season.
Alex Albon is also set to keep his place at Red Bull after the team confirmed they were impressed by his contributions after replacing Pierre Gasly.
