2019/20 Premier League
Round 26, part II
14-17 February 2020
Arsenal will go in search of a ‘double’ over Newcastle United in the top flight this term when the teams meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday 16 February 2020, kick-off at 18:30. The match is one of six spread from 14 to 17 February to complete the 26
th round of the
2019/20 Premier League season.
Arsenal played to a 13
th draw of the season – comfortably the most of any team in the Premier League this season – when they were held 0-0 at Burnley on February 1. Nonetheless, goalkeeper Bernd Leno believes manager Mikel Arteta has done a fine job since taking over.
"He has, in this short time, had a big impact because you can see the intensity we play with. Also the structure in the team and the mentality out on the pitch,” said the shot-stopper. "Before it was, I don’t want to say a mess, it was a little bit confusing, everybody was doing different things and we were not a team – not in the dressing room, not on the pitch, and you could see this.”
Newcastle, meanwhile, were also held 0-0 when they visited Norwich City on February 1, but they followed that up with a dramatic 3-2 away win over Oxford United after extra time in an FA Cup replay.

Manager Steve Bruce has hit back at suggestions that his team has been ‘lucky’ this season: “I can’t see that our accumulation of points over the past seven months of the Premier League is luck. I think that’s an insult to the players. I really, really do. They might not be the best technically but they go out and give as much as they can. That’s all you can ask.”
In head-to-head stats, Arsenal and Newcastle have met in 183 previous matches. The Gunners have claimed 78 wins compared to 67 for the Magpies, while 38 games have been drawn.
When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at St James’ Park in August 2019, Arsenal claimed a 1-0 away win thanks to a second-half goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
