Sunday, 10 April 2022

The Australian Grand Prix is set to take place in the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania, Melbourne on April 10.

This will be the third round of the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship season and it will be held at Albert Park Circuit.

Since 1996, the Australian Grand Prix has been held at the Albert Park Circuit, with the exceptions of 2020 and 2021, when the races were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The most recent race in the current campaign was the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix which was won by Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing-RBPT on March 27.

The Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr finished second and third respectively in Saudi Arabia following an enthralling race.

Leclerc remains at the top of the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings having accumulated 45 points from the first two races in the current campaign.

Sainz Jr (33) and Verstappen (25) are placed second and third respectively on the standings as the chasing pack looks to catch Leclerc.

The Mercedes duo of George Russell (22 points) and Lewis Hamilton (16 points) are placed fourth and fifth respectively on the standings.

“I don’t know, because we were still on average a second behind Red Bull and Ferrari in the race then,” Russell said when asked if Mercedes had taken a step forward after the Saudi Arabian GP.

“So we are making baby steps at the moment, we need to make some bigger leaps, I am sure we can do that.

“Timeline I don’t know, at the end of the day the others are continuing to improve as well, so we are improving, they are improving, we just need to do it at a faster rate.”

Ferrari (78 points) are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Mercedes (38 points) and Red Bull Racing-RBPT (37 points) respectively.
